The Sun Shines Bright on Elstree

This North Vancouver white stucco house was built at 627 Elstree Place in 1954 for $13,000 by P. Bergen. This house was typical of houses built in North Vancouver at this time. The usual plan is an open area living room and dining room with a fire place on the right and three small bedrooms and a kitchen on the left. This house also has an addition on the right.

Elstree Place is a short cul de sac street off Delbrook Avenue in the Delbrook area of the District of North Vancouver. The street ends at the upper Mosquito Creek Trail. This 2 km park is a well advertised dog walking area along the eastern branch of Mosquito Creek.

By 1960 E. L. Wheeler had bought the Elstree house. Ken L. and Margaret, Peggy, Wheeler continued to live there until the present time. (As indicated by City Directories 1975, 1985, 1995/96 and the 2008/10 phone book.) In 1968 and 1975 Kenneth Wheeler was a teacher for the Vancouver School Board. In 1995/96 Kenneth and Peggy are listed as consultants. They are both listed in the 2008/10 phone book. So the tally for number of years that the Wheelers lived in the house at 627 Elstree Place is at least 50, a half century in one spot.

Demolition: Permit applied for in January 2010.
